He added that this investment will help create 100 more jobs, thereby reinforcing the company's faith in the labour force.
Samsung to make an additional investment of Rs. 1000 crore in existing facility in Sriperumbudur, creating 100 more jobs, reinforcing their faith in the labour force of Tamil Nadu: Honourable Minister for Industries Dr. @TRBRajaa. #InvestInTN #BullishOnTN #JobsForTN

This comes after workers at the plant staged protest in February after employees were suspended. The protest in February was the second labour dispute at the facility since September 2024, when several workers went on a five-week strike seeking better wages and a recognised employee union.
Reuters reported that the workers' union had accused Samsung of thwarting the union, while the South Korean company denied such allegations saying it has complied with laws.
The minister did not share a clear timeline for when the investment would take place. Over 2,000 workers are currently employed at the plant where washing machines, refrigerators and televisions are made.
Products produced at the Sriperumbudur plant accounted for one-fifth's of the company's $12 billion sales in India in 2022-23.
