Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following India's retaliatory missile strikes on terror targets across the border after the Pahalgam attack, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), the country's leading real estate body, says it is ready to construct military infrastructure, housing and other government-mandated facilities within accelerated deadlines.
Tensions escalated after Indian armed forces early on April 7 carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam.
CREDAI president Shekhar G Patel has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 8, expressing the real estate sector’s unwavering support and readiness to assist the Centre in any infrastructure-driven initiatives required to be undertaken in the service of the nation.
According to people aware of the matter, military infrastructure -- which the CREDAI has offered to assist with -- may include buildings for military, bunkers, roads, among others. It has also promised assistance in the construction of housing for displaced people, if the need arises.
The real estate body has also promised swift on-ground execution, minimising lead time by developing and deploying pre-designed, terrain-responsive layouts.
CREDAI also offered to compile a pan-India list of member-developers, along with trained civil engineers, construction workers, architects, and urban planners, for immediate deployment for infrastructure-related work. The real estate body also said that it will coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely access to critical materials and equipment at short notice.
“Through our pan-India developer network, technical capabilities and skilled workforce, we are fully prepared to support any infrastructure-led initiatives that may be required in national interest. We have already initiated the process by reaching out to member-developers across the country and are identifying key vendors,” Patel said.
It added that the developers’ body can also prepare a comprehensive action plan, including a central registry of participating developers, planners, suppliers, and workforce teams.
