In a landmark move, that significantly expands its footprint and commitment to cutting-edge education, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has announced the establishment of a new state-of-the-art AI+ Campus in Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh.
Chancellor, BITS Pilani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, who is also Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, said that the Amaravati Campus would see an investment of approximately Rs 1,000 crore over a period of five years.
This new 35-acre innovation hub, which is a cornerstone of Birla's vision for the future of higher education, marks a pivotal moment for BITS Pilani, bringing its renowned academic excellence and entrepreneurial spirit to the vibrant landscape of Amaravati.
The announcement was made during the convocation ceremony of BITS Pilani on July 13.
“BITS Pilani is ready to set up a one-of-a-kind AI+ Campus at Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs 1000 crore. The focus of this campus will be to prepare Indian talent for leadership in the defining technologies of our time. This future-ready campus will specialise in AI, data science, robotics, computational linguistics, and cyber-physical systems,” Birla said in his speech.
The Amaravati campus will offer undergraduate twinning programs, cotutelle doctoral degrees with top global institutions, and master’s programs in AI/ML, innovation, and strategy. A Smart Campus Vision will integrate IoT systems, AI-powered services, learning tools, and hybrid delivery infrastructure.
Development of this new campus will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will support 3,000 students, focusing on core academics and student life; Phase 2 will scale capacity to over 7,000, adding advanced research centers, global collaboration zones, and dedicated entrepreneurship hubs, modular infrastructure for scalability and efficiency.
The Amaravati campus will also serve as a center for research and for entrepreneurship, with smart, sustainable infrastructure.
