Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will meet leading business figures in Switzerland and Sweden this week as part of efforts to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties, according to an official statement issued on Sunday.
Goyal is visiting the two countries from June 9 to 13, beginning his tour in Bern, Switzerland. During his engagements there, the minister is expected to interact with global CEOs and senior industry leaders to explore opportunities in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, precision engineering, and high-tech manufacturing.
The commerce ministry said the discussions will also include the potential benefits of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, signed earlier this year.
In Sweden, Goyal will co-chair the Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation (JCEISC) alongside Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa. The meeting will focus on strengthening economic collaboration and identifying new avenues for cooperation.
Swedish multinational companies, including Ericsson, Volvo Group, IKEA, Sandvik, Alfa Laval, and defence major SAAB, are expected to feature prominently during the visit, given their existing investments and interest in expanding operations in India.
The ministry said the visit aims to "further reinforce India’s position as a preferred investment destination and bolster bilateral engagements with two of Europe’s leading economies."
