In a major update for Aadhaar cardholders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced several changes to make Aadhaar updates faster, simpler as well as fully digital.
Starting November 1, 2025, individuals will be able to modify key details such as their name, address, date of birth or mobile number online, thus eliminating the need to visit enrolment centres or stand in long queues.
The move is part of UIDAI’s effort to make Aadhaar services more secure, user-friendly and time-efficient, while also ensuring that citizens can manage their identity details with just a few clicks from home.
What will change?
Online Aadhaar Updates
Until now, any correction or update required a physical visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Under the new system, the entire process will be available online through the UIDAI portal.
The information that the users submit will be digitally verified using linked government documents, including your PAN card, passport, driving licence or ration card, thus making the process both faster and more reliable.
Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline
Under the new guidelines, the government has made Aadhaar-PAN linking mandatory for all PAN holders by December 31, 2025.
If one fails to link the two, it will lead to deactivation of the PAN card from January 1, 2026, rendering it invalid for all tax and financial transactions, the new guidelines say.
This means that the new PAN card applicants will also need to complete Aadhaar-based verification as part of their application process now.
Simplified Digital KYC
The Know Your Customer (KYC) process for banks and financial institutions has been streamlined to make it completely paperless. Users can now complete KYC through:
Revised Fee Structure
UIDAI has also introduced a new fee system for Aadhaar-related services which will also come into effect from November 1:
₹75 for updating name, address, or mobile number
₹125 for updating biometrics (fingerprints, iris scan, or photo)
Free biometric updates for children aged 5–7 years and 15–17 years
Free online document updates until June 14, 2026; after that, ₹75 will apply at centres
₹40 for Aadhaar reprint requests
Home enrolment service: ₹700 for the first applicant, ₹350 for each additional person at the same address
This digital-first approach will help customers open accounts or complete verification in minutes, reducing the need for physical paperwork.
However, UIDAI officials have stressed that the Aadhaar-PAN linking deadline is critical. Failing to meet it could cause major disruptions in financial operations and tax compliance.
