UIDAI makes Aadhaar address update easier online, introduces fees for other demographic changes

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced key changes to help Aadhaar cardholders to easily update their Aadhaar address from its online portal, the move expected to expedite digital adoption across the country.

However, for any other update in demographic details, including name, date of birth, and biometrics (fingerprints, iris scans, and facial images), one has to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The online Aadhaar address update service has been made free of cost till July 14, 2026.

Step by step process to update Aadhaar address online

• Visit official site of UIDAI
• Click “Document Update” section
• Click “Submit” and enter Aadhaar number
• OTP verification is done through registered mobile number
• Click “Address Update”, and select either using your documents or Head of family member’s Aadhaar
• Fill up the required details, along with a supporting document
• Save the acknowledgment receipt for future requirement

The acknowledgement receipt contains a 14-digit update request number (URN), which is used to check the status for Aadhaar address update online. UIDAI may take 30 days for the address verification process to complete.

Furthermore, the UIDAI has implemented a new fee structure for updates in other demographic details including biometrics, ranging from Rs 75 to Rs 125, which can be updated at the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
