You can now update your Aadhaar details online for free through the UIDAI’s myAadhaar portal—here’s how.
Online updates are now free of cost
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is now offering free online Aadhaar updates. You can change your address, name (minor modifications), date of birth (in some cases), gender, and language online through the website myAadhaar. The service can be availed until further notice and is included in the UIDAI's effort to update Aadhaar details for free.
What you need before you start
Before logging in, hold your Aadhaar number, an active mobile number that is registered with Aadhaar, and soft copies (PDF or JPEG) of the documents ready. The mobile number is important because an OTP (one-time password) will be required to authenticate your identity before any updation. The documents should clearly support the change you are trying to make—like a bill for address, or a school certificate for date of birth.
Step-by-step process to update through myAadhaar
Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and choose "Login." Provide Aadhaar number and OTP on registered mobile number. After login, choose "Update Aadhaar Online," choose field to be updated, upload documents in support, and submit. You'll get a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) to track status. Updates may take a few days to be updated.
What cannot be updated online
You can’t update biometric details like fingerprints, iris scans, or photograph online. For these, you’ll have to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Also, major changes like date of birth beyond certain limits, or full name changes after marriage or divorce, often require physical verification and a visit to an enrolment centre.
Track your update request easily
Once you apply for the update, you can verify the status by signing in at the myAadhaar portal and selecting "Check Update Status." Enter your URN and Aadhaar number and see whether your request has been completed. In the event of an unsuccessful update, you will be informed as to why the update was not accepted, and you can apply again with corrected documents, if applicable.

For some changes, like name and date of birth, there are a limited number of attempts to update—once or twice in a lifetime—whereas address and gender can be updated more than once, although UIDAI might request for extra documents.
