Getting a brick wall done for you home might just burn a big hole in your pocket. You could opt to get a faux brick wall panel done across a few sections of the house. However, the usage of polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) does tend to look fake after a point of time and it does require you to put in a lot of effort. So here is an easy tutorial that lets you create a brick wall in four quick steps!
Materials needed
A textured paintable wallpaper Glue/warm water Scissors Ruler Towel Paint (preferably white) Method
Step 1
Depending on the size of your wall buy a textured wallpaper. Chose one that has simple lines running across it. If you choose white color wallpaper and buy a roll it would cost less. Now begin the process by cutting the wallpaper into ‘bricks’ using a pair of scissors. Place a ruler against your wallpaper and simply cut bricks which measure 6 inches in breadth and 2 and a quarter inches in width.
Step 2
If your wall already has a wallpaper, worry not as you don’t need to tear it down. Just ensure to stick the bricks close to each other. Now begin by drawing a rough stencil on your wall and follow it to stick your bricks onto the wall. If you want to have grout lines that are quarter inch apart from each other draw out grind lines which measure 6 and a quarter inch and 2 and a half inch.
Step 3
While some wallpapers require adhesive, some just need to be dipped into warm water and stuck onto the wall. So read the instructions carefully and use either glue or water to stick your brick onto the walls. Begin from one corner and continue till you have covered the entire surface of the wall. Now using a towel just press the bricks onto the wall so they don’t chip later.
Step 4
Now you could just stop with this, but if you want to create a more rustic look then it is advisable to use paint. And if you have a darker wall behind, the paint will help camouflage it. Use a paint that has a glossy finish as it will help reflect the light better. So using a paint brush begin painting the wall and using a damp cloth or a towel very gently wipe off the excess paint. This technique will help you achieve the rustic look and the grout walls will deepen giving you a brick wall like texture. Now let the paint dry overnight and place good lighting to let your walls do all the talking.
