Aadhaar card got misplaced, destroyed, or you simple need a fresh one? You don't need to visit any centre to get a new one as UIDAI now offers an online reprint facility for Indian residents. You can order an Aadhaar letter—printed on secure paper with holograms and QR code—which can be delivered to your location by India Post. You can even place this order if your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, though the process is a bit different.

Steps to order Aadhaar reprint online

Visit the UIDAI website (https://uidai.gov.in) and choose the "Order Aadhaar Reprint" link under the 'My Aadhaar' section. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or VID (Virtual ID), as well as the security captcha. If the mobile number is linked with Aadhaar, an OTP will be received to verify the request. If not linked, you can proceed by ticking the box called "My mobile number is not registered" and following the instructions. Once verified, you’ll be taken to a payment gateway.

How much does it cost and how long does it take

UIDAI charges a minimal fee of ₹50 (GST and delivery included) for each reprint. You can pay by credit/debit card, UPI, or net banking. Payment is done, and UIDAI completes the request with the reprinted Aadhaar letter sent through India Post speed post service within 5 working days. The tracking ID is sent through SMS to allow you to track your delivery status.

What is contained in the reprinted Aadhaar card

The reprinted Aadhaar is not just a regular paper copy—it is a laminated letter printed on high-quality paper with key security features like a hologram, micro text, and an invisible logo. It also carries a secure QR code with your photo and demographic details. If you’ve recently updated any information like address or mobile number, the latest details will be reflected in the reprint.

Can I order on behalf of someone or without a registered mobile number?

Yes, even if you have not linked your mobile number with Aadhaar, you can use the service. You will need to go through OTP verification from some other number. UIDAI has also provided for relatives to help elderly or those who may not be capable of accessing the internet. Just ensure that Aadhaar number and delivery address are given correctly as per UIDAI data.

Why reprint Aadhaar instead of printing it at home?

You can print an e-Aadhaar PDF from the UIDAI portal, but the reprint facility gives you an official, tamper-proof physical Aadhaar, which is acceptable as a government ID. Official institutions may accept the official reprint in place of a home print. The secure print format is authentic and flawless when you need a brand new physical copy for documentation or KYC processes.
