Game of musical chairs

One of the top seats at a financial regulator is turning into the most-watched vacancy in recent memory. The appointee hasn’t shown up yet - and no one’s quite sure if it’s cold feet, a delayed start, or a quiet exit.

The buzz in the corridors is that the chosen one came from outside the system and specialises in taxation - an odd fit, some feel, for such a regulator. The appointment had already ruffled feathers internally, with murmurs about queue jumping and questions about value addition doing the rounds.

But now, with the seat still vacant and a new boss at the helm listening more closely to internal voices, insiders are hoping for a plot twist in their favour.

Will the original appointee walk in eventually, or has the regulator’s version of musical chairs entered its remix phase? Stay tuned.

See something fishy - and spot a business opportunity

See something fishy - and spot a business opportunity

Never let a good scandal go to waste - and forensic firms clearly haven’t. The recent scandal may have spooked investors, but it’s got audit firms polishing their pitch decks for what one might call “emerging market potential” or, better still, making hay when balance sheets burn.

Senior folks at angel investment networks, who had parked money in the embattled company, were caught off guard when the accounting firms began sliding into their inboxes. Not with questions but with pitches. Offers ranged from “we can take a look at your portfolio” to “happy to partner on future investments (with a flashlight and a checklist, of course).”

The message is clear: where there’s smoke, there’s an audit trail and a retainer fee. After all, what better way to profit from a crisis than offering to clean it up?

Millionaire dreams, sponsored slots, and shady calls

Want to build a personal brand? Easy. Just wrap your life story in a rags-to-riches narrative — think middle-class struggles to millionaire dreams — and voilà, you’re ready to sell anything from financial wisdom to inflatable hot-air balloons.

Luckily, there are platforms (some with real doors, others just login pages) that let you share your inspiring tale — for a “reasonable” price, of course. These platforms will gladly give you the mic; no background checks are needed. Who needs due diligence when the story tugs at heartstrings and opens wallets?

Take one influencer who recently made waves on such a platform, waxing eloquent about her climb. But social media wasn’t buying it. Critics were quick to point out that she conveniently skipped the part where she made a fortune selling trading courses - while her followers bled money. Oh, and let’s not forget the allegations of dishing out investment advice before getting registered. Insiders say these slots are still up for grabs - for the right price!
