The stock markets will remain shut on Friday, August 15, on account of the 79th Independence Day. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will observe a full-day holiday.
Trading in equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts will be suspended for the day.
According to the NSE holiday calendar, there are two scheduled market holidays in August — August 15 for Independence Day and August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi.
The traders should take note that the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also be shut on August 15 for both the morning and the evening sessions.

It is a symbolic one-hour trading session held annually on the auspicious occasion of Diwali in the stock market. It's considered a lucky hour for stock investments, believed to bring prosperity and wealth for the year ahead.
The stock market functions from Monday to Friday, with regular trading hours between 9:15 AM and 3:30 PM. A pre-opening session is held from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM on trading days to enable a smooth market opening. The market remains closed on weekends, i.e., Saturdays and Sundays.
