As part of the Diwali celebrations, leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE will host the one-hour special Muhurat trading on November 12. The session will start at 6pm and end at 7:15pm, which includes a 15-minute pre-market session.
The sessions mark the beginning of a new Hindu calendar year, also known as Samvat, and it is believed that conducting trading during the auspicious hour brings prosperity and financial growth to the stakeholders. All trades executed during the Muhurat trading session are settled on the same day.
Diwali is considered to be an auspicious time to commence any new venture, according to market analysts. Investors are believed to reap benefits from trading during this session throughout the year. On November 12, which falls on a Sunday, regular trading will be closed.
Historical data suggests that investors have had positive experiences, with the BSE Sensex closing higher in seven out of the last 10 such special sessions.
During the last two Mahurat Trading sessions, the stock markets have closed in the green on the Muhurat trading day. Both the Sensex and the Nifty gained 0.88 percent each on Muhurat trading in 2022, while in 2021, the two benchmarks moved up by 0.49 percent each.
Trading would take place across various segments like equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) in the same time slot.
The exchanges will remain closed on November 14 on the occasion of Diwali Balipratipada.
