HFCL shares jump 3% as govt announces notification for 6G services

HFCL is a market leader in 6G equipment; 6G services will give boost to gaming, robotic surgeries etc.

    Shares of HFCL Ltd rose 3% on May 19 after government announced notification for 6G services.

    On May 16, govt announced rules for 6 GHz band (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules, 2025, which is likely to lead in pick up in 6G equipment orders.

    HFCL is a market leader in 6G equipment.

    At 10:55 am, HFCL Ltd shares were trading 3% higher at Rs 91 apiece. 52-week low of the stock is Rs 71.6 and 52-week high is Rs 171. The market capitalisation of the stock is Rs 13,000 crore.

    Apart from optic fibre cable, HFCL provides peripheral telecom equipment that connects with base stations to enhance coverage.

    Last year, HFCL Managing Director Mahendra Nahata told PTI that the company is bullish on 6G technology and has already filed around 15 patents.

    "I believe India is going to play a key role in shaping up 6G technology. The meeting of the global standard body, WTSA, in India reflects that our country will play an important role in setting up standards for 6G," he said.

    6G services will give boost to gaming, robotic surgeries etc.,

    Earlier this month, Union Minister of State for Telecom Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said over 111 research projects have been funded in India with sanction amount of Rs 300 crore and the country now ranks among the top six nations globally in 6G patent filings.

    Speaking at BHARAT 6G 2025 conference, the minister said that 6G will utilise TeraHertz frequency bands enabling data rates up to 1 terabit per second which is 100 times faster than 5G.
    He said that as India continues its journey towards becoming a global technology leader, its path forward with 6G technology will define the nation's prosperity for decades to come.

    "6G will create entirely new industries and revolutionize existing ones, potentially adding $1 trillion to India's economy by 2035. Indigenous 6G development will also ensure that our secure communications are developed within India and secure," the minister said.
