Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to open marginally lower on August 21, tracking cues from GIFT Nifty trading near 24,698, a short while ago this morning.

The Indian indices ended on a strong note as bulls came with a force that helped Nifty to surpass 24,700 intraday on August 20.

The Sensex was up 378.18 points or 0.47 percent at 80,802.86, and the Nifty was up 126.10 points or 0.51 percent at 24,698.80.

Asian Equities (Down)

Asian markets were trading lower on Wednesday, tracking Wall Street as both the S&P500 and Nasdaq Composite snapped an eight-day winning streak.

US Equities (Down)

US stocks closed slightly lower on Tuesday, breaking their recent winning streak amid a few market-moving catalysts ahead of the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, set to get underway on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 61.56 points, or 0.15%, to 40,834.97, the S&P 500 lost 11.13 points, or 0.20%, to 5,597.12 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 59.83 points, or 0.33%, to 17,816.94.

US Bond Yield (Gains)

The US 10-year Treasury yield was up marginally at 3.80 percent, while the US 2-year bond yield gained 16 bps at 3.98 percent.

Dollar Index (Flat)

The dollar slipped to its lowest this year versus the euro on Wednesday as traders braced for potentially crucial revisions to U.S. payrolls data later in the day, ahead of a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the end of the week.

Asian currencies (Gain)

Asian currencies gained against the US dollar, with the Indonesian Rupiah leading as the top gainer, up by 0.74%, followed by the Malaysian Ringgit and Thai Baht, which fell by 0.298% and 0.273%, respectively.
