Foreign investors (FIIs/FPIs) net sold Rs 3,642 crore worth of Indian equities on Tuesday. At the same time, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought shares worth Rs 4,646 crore, according to provisional exchange data.
DIIs purchased shares worth Rs 15,195 crore and sold shares worth Rs 10,549 crore. In contrast, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 15,234 crore but sold shares totalling Rs 18,876 crore.
For the year so far, FIIs have been net sellers of shares worth Rs 2.62 lakh crore, while DIIs have net bought shares worth Rs 7.13 lakh crore.

Market view
At close, the Sensex was down 503.63 points or 0.59 percent at 85,138.27, and the Nifty was down 143.55 points or 0.55 percent at 26,032.20. BSE Midcap index ended marginally lower, while Smallcap index fell 0.6%.
All the sectoral indices ended in the red with metal, oil & gas, private Bank, consumer durables, media index down 0.5% each.
Interglobe Aviation, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank were among top losers on the Nifty, while gainers included Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, Dr Reddy's Labs, SBI Life Insurance and Maruti Suzuki.
