Bharti Airtel has been penalized ₹1.17 lakh by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Tamil Nadu LSA, for alleged violations of subscriber verification norms. The penalty was imposed following a Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit conducted by the DoT in July 2025.
The Department of Telecommunications, Tamil Nadu LSA (‘DoT') issued the notice imposing the penalty of ₹1,17,000 for alleged violation of subscriber verification norms on September 16, 2025, at 12:13 PM IST.
In terms of the License agreement, Bharti Airtel is required to ensure adequate verification of customers before enrolling them as subscribers and comply with the instructions issued by DoT. The DoT conducts periodic CAF Audits to confirm compliance with these licensing terms and conditions.
The DoT conducted a sample CAF Audit for July 2025 and alleged violations of terms and conditions with respect to subscriber verification norms under the License Agreement.
Bharti Airtel has opted not to contest the penalty and will pay the amount. The maximum financial impact/implication is to the extent of the penalty levied.
