Automakers Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported robust year-on-year sales growth in May, driven by continued demand in the passenger vehicle and tractor segments, along with a notable uptick in exports.
M&M’s overall auto sales rose 17 percent year-on-year to 84,110 units in May 2025. Passenger vehicle (PV) sales came in strong, registering a 21 percent increase at 52,431 units compared to 43,218 units in May 2024.
Exports saw a sharp 37 percent jump to 3,652 units, up from 2,671 units in the same month last year. Three-wheeler sales also improved, rising 11% year-on-year to 6,635 units, compared to 5,967 units in May 2024.
In the tractor segment, M&M reported a 10 percent growth in total sales, which stood at 40,643 units in May 2025 versus 37,109 units a year ago. The company has attributed the strong demand to ongoing rural resilience and stable market conditions.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor said its May 2025 sales grew 22 percent year-on-year to 30,864 units, compared to 25,273 units in May 2024. Domestic wholesales accounted for 29,280 units, while exports stood at 1,584 units.
Commenting on the performance, Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President of Sales, Service & Used Car Business at TKM, said the outlook remains positive with the arrival of the monsoon season and forecasts indicating normal to above-normal rainfall. “We remain optimistic about improved market sentiment, especially across rural and semi-urban regions,” he said.
Wadhwa added that Toyota’s diverse product portfolio and ongoing marketing efforts have positioned the company to maintain its growth momentum in the coming months.
