LIC says Ramakrishnan Chander takes charge as chief investment officer

Chander will succeed Ratnakar Patnaik, who has taken over as the managing director of LIC earlier this month.

    Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on June 5 announced that the company's current executive director Ramakrishnan Chander has taken charge as its Chief Investment Officer, effective from today.

    Chander has been appointed as the CIO till his superannuation which is scheduled for September 30, 2027. He has now become one of LIC's key managerial personnel. He had joined LIC in 1990 as an Assistant Administrative Officer, after having completed his Post Graduation Diploma in Financial Management. He is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India.

    According to LIC, Chander has an experience of working as Senior Divisional Manager of Nagpur and Hyderabad divisions. He has also worked as Regional Manager (Marketing), South Zone and as Regional Manager (Pension & Group Schemes), South Central Zone.

    Previously, Chander led LIC's Strategic Business Unit – International Operations as Executive Director. He currently heads Investment – Front Office of the company.

    Notably, Chander will succeed Ratnakar Patnaik as the CIO of LIC. This comes after Patnaik took charge as the managing director (MD) of the company, with effect from June 1. The company on May 15 had announced the appointment of Ratnakar Patnaik as well as Dinesh Pant as its managing directors (MDs).

    LIC announced the appointed of Ramakrishnan Chander as the CIO of the company in the post market hours of June 5. The stock had closed with marginal gains at around Rs 956 apiece. It has gained nearly 17 percent in the past one month, and around 7 percent so far in 2025. The shares of the life insurer have gained nearly 16 percent since their market debut in May 2022.

    Earlier during the day, LIC announced that it will acquire over 2 percent equity stake in Dr Reddy's Labs, taking its total stake in the company to over 8.2 percent.
