The mighty Aussies have won their 6th ODI World Cup title in stunning fashion as Travis Head powered home the team with a fierce century. Head becomes only the 6th batsman and the 3rd Australian to score a century in the final. Chasing 241 to win, the Aussies won at a canter with 7 overs to spare thanks to a special performance from Head. He was ably supported by Marnus Labuschagne, who grafted his way to a disciplined half-century.

The Indian team will be dejected to lose the final, especially in such a meek fashion after being the best team in the tournament during the group stage.

In the end, Australia stuck to their captain's promise of silencing the 1.3 lakh Indian fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium as they emerged victorious in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

All eyes were on Suryakumar Yadav in the death overs as the top batters departed, with India hoping he would the majority of the strike and go big towards the end. However, despite batting with the tail, SKY was more than happy to take singles and reach the non-striker's end. Although the conditions did not favour his style of batting, SKY should have farmed more of the strike. But by the time he decided to take strike and go big, it was too late and he was eventually out for a pedestrian innings of just 18 of 28 balls. His torturous stay at the crease was emblematic of India's struggles with the bat against the clever Australian bowlers, who exploited the conditions perfectly.

The fielding was supported by excellent bowling as India never scored above 5 runs per over after reaching 80/2 after the 10th over. India scored only 2 fours from the end of the 10th over until the 42nd, going 97 balls without a boundary at one point. And the vice grip on the Indian batters continued as no batter apart from Virat Kohli (54 of 63) scored at a quick enough rate to boost India's innings.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first, Australia were electrifying on the field. India made a customary lightning start to the game courtesy of some big hits from skipper Rohit Sharma (47 of 31). However, Pat Cummins & co were not fazed as they gave it their all on the field, saving runs every time the ball was headed to the boundary and it paid off. In the event of a tie in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final between India and Australia, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced new regulations. A Super Over will be played to break the tie, and if the Super Over also concludes with a tie, subsequent Super Overs will be played until a winner is determined.

The updated rules state that, unless exceptional circumstances arise, an unlimited number of Super Overs will be played to achieve a conclusive result. This change aims to ensure a definitive outcome, adding an extra layer of excitement to the already intense World Cup final.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, "India will surely have an advantage. Australia will be a little scared to face India in the final. It will be a tough contest and won't be a one-sided affair."

The 2023 ODI WC final between India and Australia will be played on pitch No. 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the surface that was used for the India-Pakistan game on October 14. Since then no match has been played on this pitch.

Team India won that game in 73 overs, but it was played on October 14, when the weather was hot and dry. A little over a month later, there's an early winter nip in the air in Ahmedabad, and there's a lot more dew. Pitch No. 5 has been watered, rolled, and watered.
