India will soon have its first pool of data on the capex intentions and capex spending across industries, Saurabh Garg, secretary to the statistics and programme implementation ministry, said on December 5.
While addressing the data user conference on the Annual Survey of Industries by the statistics ministry, Garg noted that the MoSPI will also announce the results of the Time Use Survey over the next few months. “Time use survey and capex survey results will be announced soon.”
The ministry had recently declared about the capex survey based on data it began collecting since October. The two-part survey will have one section on investments made in the past year, and the other on investment expectations for the next two years.
The time use survey, on the other hand, will capture the trend on unpaid and paid workers across gender. More importantly, it will reflect the data on unpaid household work.
The ministry will also look to collaborate on alternative data sources to align with the administrative data. “We are now focusing on alternative data, like social media data, for better use of these statistics,” Garg said.
Moneycontrol had earlier reported that the MoSPI will also be working with researchers to tap data on e-commerce platforms and satellite data to capture the trends.
The ministry is also working to release the revised GDP, CPI and IIP series from February 2026.
