
India’s retail inflation inched up to 3.21 percent in February, compared with a revised 2.74 percent in January, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on March 12. Food and beverages continued to be a major driver of inflation in February, with prices rising 3.35 percent year-on-year. Clothing and footwear inflation remained moderate at 2.81 percent, indicating stable price trends in apparel and related products. The most striking increase came from personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services, where inflation surged to 19.64 percent, making it the fastest rising component in the CPI basket for February.
