Oil India Limited (OIL) successfully commissioned the Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) Technology for extraction of heavy crude oil from Jodhpur sandstone, the oldest sedimentary rock of Rajasthan, after almost 27 years of its discovery. The Cyclic Steam Stimulation(CSS) is used to extract high-viscosity oil.
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, Hardeep Singh Puri took to X and wrote,"With successful induction of Cyclic Steam Stimulation technology, @OilIndiaLimited claims a milestone breakthrough for extraction of heavy crude from Jodhpur Sandstone, the oldest sedimentary rock of Rajasthan, after almost 27 years of its discovery.

India imported 232.5 million tonnes of crude oil, which is refined into fuels like petrol and diesel, in the FY 2023-24 (April 2023 to March 2024), almost the same as in the previous financial year. However, it paid $132.4 billion for the imports in FY24 as against $157.5 billion import bill in 2022-23, the Oil Ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) data showed.
