Mysore Sandal soap-maker Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) will soon launch perfumes and a dish-wash bar as part of its expanding product lineup.
Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil said that 23 new products have been added to KSDL’s portfolio, with plans underway to introduce dishwashing products and perfumes.
KSDL, the maker of the iconic Mysore Sandal soap, has already launched products such as detergent powder, detergent cakes, liquid detergent, and liquid dishwashers.

KSDL Managing Director Prashanth PKM told Moneycontrol that the company will be launching perfumes and a dish-wash bar for the first time. “We are also introducing a premium soap – the ‘Mysore Sandal Millennium Premium Soap’ – which will be priced at Rs 3,000 and launched in July,” he said.
Officials said the 150-gram Mysore Sandal Millennium Premium Soap is made of high-quality natural sandalwood oil, will be available at airports and for export purposes.

At present, the most expensive KSDL soap – Mysore Sandal Millennium Soap (150 gm) – is priced at Rs 800.
Patil clarified that the decision to appoint actor Tamannaah Bhatia as KSDL’s brand ambassador was made purely on business grounds. “An expert committee reviewed several factors before making the decision. Some other celebrities were considered, but they were under contract with competing brands and therefore could not be selected,” he explained.
Patil further said that since the Congress government took office, proactive measures have been taken to streamline KSDL’s operations. “With the same equipment and workforce, we have enhanced production capacity, and the company is now turning a profit. The BJP leaders, who were indifferent when KSDL was incurring losses, are now issuing grand statements about protecting the state's interests,” Patil criticised.
"Leaders of a few organisations who had earlier questioned Tamannaah’s appointment later contacted me and expressed their satisfaction with the measures being taken to expand KSDL’s reach. They admitted that they were not fully aware of the facts initially," the minister said.
Patil also said that similar reforms are being implemented at Mysore Sales International Limited (MSIL). “We have introduced digitisation measures aimed at increasing MSIL’s annual transactions to Rs 10,000 crore by 2030. MSIL’s stationery division has been revived, including the relaunch of ‘Lekhak’ notebooks,” he said.
