Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, said on August 7 that it will recall 2,555 Alto K10 vehicles for suspected defect in steering gear box assembly.

"The said defect, in a rare case, may affect the vehicle steerability," Maruti said in an exchange filing. "Out of abundant caution, customers of the affected vehicles are advised not to drive or use the vehicle till the Part is replaced."

Affected vehicle owners will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki authorized dealer workshops for inspection and replacement of the Part, free of cost, the country's largest carmaker added.

In March, Maruti Suzuki had announced recalling of 11,851 units of Baleno and 4,190 units of WagonR manufactured between July 30, 2019 and November 1, 2019.

At that time, the potential issue was identified in a component of the fuel pump motor, which in rare instances may result in engine stalling or engine starting issues, Maruti had said.
