The price of Jeep Compass is set to increase following the hike in the government cess. The hike in cess will also lead to a rise in the price for various other models from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).
The price of the Compass SUV, which was launched in July has been increased between Rs 21000 and Rs 72000, as per a report in The Financial Express. The cost of the petrol variant of the model will now come in the range of Rs 15.16 lakh to Rs 19.67 lakh, while the diesel variant will now cost between Rs 15.99 lakh to Rs 21.37 lakh in New Delhi.
It is not clear how the hike will affect the prospects of the model in the country. FCA has invested around $280 million for Jeep Compass on its plant at Ranjangaon, Pune.
The company has plans to export the SUV from the plant to other right-hand drive markets as well. Further, with over 80 percent of the parts sourced from India, it was expected that the supplier base will aid in the production of future models.
However, it will not just be the Compass, which will see a price hike. The price of Grand Cherokee and Wrangler have also increased between Rs 2.75 lakh to Rs 6.40 lakh. Similarly, Fiat India also increased the prices of its models Linea and Avventura by Rs 9,000 to Rs 14,000.
