The Government of India aims at ‘24/7 Power For All’ by 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces 'Power For All' scheme and the government plans to invest Rs 16,320 crore in this scheme named as Saubhagya scheme.

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, PV Ramesh, CMD of Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) spoke about the latest happenings in his company and sector.

We are grateful to the government for trusting REC for being the nodal agency. We will continue to do whatever the government directs us to do, we work in close coordination with the state governments and the distribution companies, he said.

The company is also a nodal agency for Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) and the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).

State governments are well geared to implement village electrification. So this should be a logical extension of the process, he added.

Demand for capital investment and distribution network, in addition to what is being done under DDUGJY, has gone up, which is a very positive trend, said Ramesh.
