Toyota Kirloskar Motor's total sales in September declined 5% year-on-year to 12,115 units due to fall in demand for its Etios range of passenger cars.

It sold 4,440 units of the Etios series last month, compared with 5,926 units it sold a year ago. Sales of the Innova, however, were up 23% to 5,858 units and Fortuner sales rose 21% to 1,301 units.

"The market has been quite sluggish and the market sentiments are very low in the passenger car segment. We hope to see it picking up in the festive season," Sandeep SIngh, deputy MD, marketing, said.

Apart from the Etios, Fortuner and Innova, Toyota Kirloskar sold 424 units of the Corolla Altis and 85 units of the Camry, last month.

It also exported 2,176 units of the Etios series to South Africa in September.

NISSAN SALES

Meanwhile, sales at Japanese rival Nissan jumped 64% year-on-year to 3,574 units in the domestic market in September. It sold a total of 3,567 units of the Micra hatchback and Sunny sedan last month.

The company also said it has received 160 bookings for its multi-utility vehicle Evalia, which was launched last week.
