LPG Rates Today (March 16, 2026): As the Iran war enters its third week with no clear sign of a ceasefire, concerns are growing in India over the availability of LPG cylinders. While the Centre has repeatedly said there is no shortage of cooking gas, several businesses in the hospitality sector say intermittent supply of commercial LPG has begun affecting operations and denting business.

Meanwhile, a PTI report says that LPG refill bookings have fallen to around 77 lakh, down from 88.8 lakh earlier, suggesting that panic buying has begun to ease.

The government said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas and that fuel supplies across the country remain stable despite the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

In its daily situation update, authorities said oil marketing companies have not reported any supply shortages at petrol pumps or LPG distributorships. Officials added that domestic refineries are operating at high capacity and have sufficient crude oil inventories. India also continues to be self-sufficient in petrol and diesel production, meaning domestic demand can be met without relying on imports.

Officials noted that the decline in LPG bookings was recorded on Saturday, when approximately 77 lakh cylinders were booked, compared with 88.8 lakh bookings on March 13, 2026. At the same time, the proportion of online bookings has increased from 84 per cent to about 87 per cent. The rise in digital bookings has been linked to campaigns by oil marketing companies urging consumers to order cylinders online rather than visiting LPG agencies amid fears of shortages.

The government said uninterrupted LPG supply for households and essential services such as hospitals and educational institutions remains a priority. Several states and union territories - including Bihar, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan - have also issued directives regarding the allocation of non-domestic LPG in line with government guidelines.

Authorities have intensified surveillance to prevent hoarding and black marketing of petrol, diesel and LPG. Enforcement teams have carried out raids in states such as Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, while officials from public sector oil marketing companies have been conducting surprise inspections at LPG distributorships to ensure uninterrupted supply.

The government has appealed to citizens to avoid panic purchases, emphasising that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available nationwide. Priority sectors continue to receive protected natural gas supply, with 100 per cent supply of piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) being maintained. Gas supply to industrial and commercial users has been moderated to around 80 per cent.

To further strengthen availability, commercial LPG cylinders have been made available to state governments for priority distribution and are currently accessible across 30 states and union territories. The government has also amended the LPG Control Order, making it mandatory for consumers who have PNG connections to surrender their domestic LPG connections.

Officials said domestic LPG production at refineries has been maximised, while booking intervals have been adjusted to ensure fair distribution. Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs said it is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia and assisting Indian nationals in the region through round-the-clock helplines at Indian missions. Since February 28, about 1.94 lakh passengers have returned to India from the region.

Public sector oil marketing companies are continuing to encourage digital LPG bookings and are keeping distributorships open on Sundays to help maintain smooth supply. Authorities again urged citizens to remain calm and avoid unnecessary bookings or visits to LPG agencies, while also encouraging consumers to use alternative fuels such as PNG where available.

Officials added that the government remains in close coordination with relevant ministries and agencies to ensure preparedness across critical sectors and safeguard national interests.
