Citigroup hires banking veteran Shan Li for key role in Asia

Li is a veteran banker who has held key leadership and advisory roles across global and regional financial institutions, including Credit Suisse, UBS Group AG, and Bank of China International.

The Wall Street bank has been hiring senior bankers across banking and markets, including Lenny Chu from HSBC Holdings Plc, who joined as China global network banking head in August.

Citigroup Inc. has named Shan Li chairman of Japan, Asia North and Australia, based in Hong Kong, adding to recent hires made by the bank.

Li is a veteran banker who has held key leadership and advisory roles across global and regional financial institutions, including Credit Suisse, UBS Group AG, and Bank of China International.

As chairman, he will play an instrumental role providing advice and insights to Chinese clients as well as multinationals planning to expand in China, according to an internal memo. A spokeswoman for the bank confirmed the contents.
