Iranian embassy issues warning against fake channels

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India has released a list of social media accounts that it said were “fake channels” attempting to damage Iran-India relations. The list was released on the embassy's official Twitter page on Saturday.

"Some fake channels, under the name of Iran, are attempting to damage Iran-India relations. These accounts do not belong to Iran," the embassy wrote, while sharing screenshots of the names of these "fake channels" in an X post.

Two of the images that the embassy shared online showed a list of fake accounts and the other two showed posts and fake claims. One image showed a post by a fake account by the Ministry of Defence in Iran, and it claimed that the Iranian authorities were “reconsidering” the Chabahar Port agreement with India.

While sharing a picture, the Iran embassy wrote in red font over the image, “Fake News, Fake Account." A picture shared by the embassy showed a post that was found to be from an account originating from Pakistan's Karachi.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last visited Iran in May 2016. However, he did meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia in October 2024 where they  discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
