Festive décor doesn’t always mean a full-blown overhaul of your interiors. Sometimes, all it takes is a thoughtfully designed corner to bring in that celebratory spirit. A festive nook is less about how much effort or money you spend and more about how it makes you feel. With a little imagination, a hero piece you adore, and the right play of light and texture, you can design a corner that’s ready to celebrate any occasion in style.
This minimal yet effective addition gives your festive corner a dynamic quality and it evolves with the seasons and occasions without requiring major changes. Brijesh Bansal, Founder of Stone Art, believes in keeping it simple yet meaningful. He says, “I've always held the opinion that you can create a festive atmosphere in your house without completely redesigning it. Sometimes all you need to add coziness and happiness to your space is a tiny, thoughtfully designed corner. I begin by locating an area that is visually appealing by nature, such as a sunny windowsill, a mantle, or a side table. The setting should have a slightly unique vibe without interfering with your daily routine.”
Start with a hero piece
Every stylish corner begins with a star. Think of it as the anchor that sets the mood for everything else. Bansal explains, “There must be a focal point in every festive area. For me, that's usually a character-filled lantern, a beautiful vase, or a handcrafted stone sculpture. Everything else is set in motion by this one piece.” Once you’ve chosen your hero piece, layering becomes effortless. A handcrafted sculpture can be paired with a textured runner, a folded scarf, or even a small cushion for softness. Organic elements like wood, stone, and ceramics blend seamlessly with these textiles, making the corner feel balanced, grounded, and inviting.

Lighting, as Bansal puts it, is the ultimate game-changer. A patterned lamp or a cluster of candles instantly transforms the atmosphere with their warm glow. “I prefer to place the light so that the hero piece is highlighted,” he notes. This not only elevates the focal point but also adds depth and intimacy to the space. For evenings, fairy lights draped casually or votive candles in brass holders can bring in a festive sparkle without going overboard. The trick lies in creating a warm, glowing environment that feels celebratory yet serene.
Finishing touch
When it comes to festive décor, restraint is elegance. Overcrowding your corner with too many elements can dilute the charm. Seasonal touches are the easiest way to keep your corner fresh and relevant all year long. As Bansal shares, “The simplest way to identify the season is to incorporate nature. I add dried branches or pinecones in the winter and fresh flowers in the spring. It's easy, fast, and instantly revitalizing.” The mantra is to keep it streamlined and avoid going overboard. To make it simple to update the space for Diwali, Christmas, or even a laid-back dinner with friends, limit yourself to no more than five or seven components.
