Shackets and boxy shirts are style staples for men this season, here’s how to style it

How to style shackets: A boxy shirt tucked loosely into pleated trousers feels fashion-forward without trying too hard. A shacket layered over a basic tee with cargos and clean sneakers strikes the perfect balance between street and smart.

  • Shackets and boxy shirts are trending for Gen Z men, offering comfort and style.
  • Men's 2026 wardrobes feature neutral and earthy tones for a fresh, elevated look.
  • Loose denims and chinos replace skinny jeans and sharp trousers.

If there’s one thing Gen Z has made clear, it’s this: Fashion must feel as good as it looks. Enter shackets and boxy shirts, two silhouettes that have quietly taken over men’s wardrobes and are now shaping the way young men dress in 2026.

It’s this ability to move between work, social plans, travel and leisure that makes shackets and boxy shirts feel so relevant.

Oversized but not sloppy

A shacket is exactly what it sounds like: Part shirt, part jacket. Usually crafted in heavier fabrics like flannel, twill, denim, or wool blends, it works as a lightweight layer that can be worn open over a tee or buttoned up like a shirt. It’s functional, transitional, and adaptable across seasons.

Boxy shirts, on the other hand, are defined by their relaxed, slightly cropped silhouette, dropped shoulders, and straight-cut structure. Unlike slim-fit shirts that cling to the body, boxy shirts create space.

Why Gen Z can’t get enough

According to Harsh and Tanvi Somaiya, founders of The Bear House, there’s a clear shift in how men are dressing today. There’s a move away from outfits that feel like a ‘uniform’ and toward pieces that feel personal and lived-in. Says the duo, “The reason is simple: men don’t want to feel restricted anymore. Today’s man wants to transition seamlessly from a 10 AM meeting to travel or downtime without changing outfits. These silhouettes work because they offer comfort, breathability, and versatility.”

How to build a versatile wardrobe

Colour plays a big role in making these looks feel elevated. In 2026, men’s wardrobes are grounded in versatile neutrals like navy, black, grey, beige and olive, while earthy tones such as brown, khaki, rust and maroon add warmth. Softer accents like dusty blue and muted pastels bring freshness without feeling loud.

One strong shacket, one good tee, one relaxed trouser and solid footwear can take you through an entire day. Harsh and Tanvi share their top essentials for the season, “A well-cut flannel is all-weather essential: It works as a standalone shirt or a light layer and instantly adds character. A great basic tee is the foundation: wearable anywhere, pairable with everything, and elevated through fabric and fit. Add a relaxed-fit chino in a neutral tone like olive or sand, which moves effortlessly from workdays to weekends. The textured knit polo replaces the traditional button-down, offering comfort while still looking refined. Finally, a clean, minimal sneaker (preferably white or off-white) ties everything together.”

Instead of skinny jeans or sharp trousers, the new formula leans toward relaxed bottoms. Loose-fit denims, cargo pants, Korean-style trousers with soft pleats, and wide chinos are the go-to companions.
