While the red carpet at the Oscars has been a hub for global luxury fashion over the years, it has now become a platform where Indian designers are gaining more prominence. At the 98th Academy Awards, many global celebrities were seen wearing Indian couture and jewellery, thus promoting the global recognition of India’s fashion talent.

While stars like Priyanka Chopra, Anne Hathaway, Pedro Pascal, Jessie Buckley, Kylie Jenner and Robert Downey Jr. arrived in creations from established houses such as Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Givenchy, a few standout looks featured craftsmanship rooted in India. Designers including Rahul Mishra, Gaurav Gupta, Sabyasachi and Bibhu Mohapatra were among those whose creations made an appearance on the red carpet.

Rahul Mishra’s couture moment

Singer Rei Ami was among those who chose Indian couture for the evening. The artist attended the ceremony following the success of the animated film K-Pop: Demon Hunter, which won two awards that night.

For the occasion, she wore a custom Rahul Mishra ensemble built around a shimmering black mini dress. The look was styled with an edgy look as it was paired with an oversized jacket that had a flowing train. The look had subtle ruffles, while her hair was styled in a center part as she chose to keep it simple.

Gaurav Gupta’s sculptural design

Actor Li Jun Li also embraced Indian design, stepping onto the red carpet in a bold red creation by Gaurav Gupta.

The look consisted of a structured corset made of satin, accompanied by a sculptural drape, and a high slit skirt with lace-up elements. The design, titled Inner Flame, was originally unveiled during Gupta’s Spring/Summer 2026 couture presentation in Paris and reflects the designer’s signature architectural aesthetic.

Sabyasachi’s jewellery sparkles

Indian luxury label Sabyasachi made its mark through statement jewellery pieces worn by several celebrities at the ceremony.

Actor Ginnifer Goodwin complemented her black strapless gown with a necklace crafted in 18-karat gold, set with emeralds, mint tourmaline and diamonds. Rachel McAdams also incorporated Sabyasachi jewellery into her look, choosing earrings and a ring adorned with morganite, sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds.

Actor Rhea Seehorn was another celebrity seen wearing the designer’s creations at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, selecting pieces set with mint amethyst and diamonds.

Bibhu Mohapatra’s tribute to Indian textiles

TV personality Tamron Hall paid tribute to India’s rich textile heritage in a Bibhu Mohapatra gown. The ivory-colored column gown had Odisha Ikat embroidery, which has ancient roots in India.

The gown had dramatic sculptural details that looked like angel wings, giving the outfit a sense of movement and drama, even though the overall look was simple and elegant.

Rachel McAdams steals the show at the Oscars red carpet

Rachel McAdams made a statement at the Oscars red carpet, returning to the Oscars stage after a decade. While paying tribute to the legendary actress Diane Keaton during the “In Memoriam” segment, McAdams honored the actress, who passed away in October 2025.

For the night, McAdams donned a gold Alberta Ferretti gown from the Fall/Winter 2026 collection. The outfit was a ready-to-wear piece, and the actress looked stunning in the gold gown. The gold-colored column gown had delicate sequin embroidery that gave the outfit a soft glow.

The look had a dramatic touch with the addition of a cape, which gave the outfit a flowing look. McAdams paired the gold gown with gold pumps by Stuart Weitzman and finished the look with statement pieces by Sabyasachi.

As international stars continue to experiment with diverse fashion influences, the presence of Indian designers on global red carpets like the Oscars suggests that the country’s craftsmanship is steadily becoming part of the world’s luxury fashion conversation.
