What are the new features in version 4 of portfolio, compared to the previous version?

If you are an existing Moneycontrol.com portfolio user, you will see drastic changes in the way you see, add, and manage data in the latest version. (You will still find many similarities in the way you used to interact with the existing portfolio).

Here is a list of the major additions in the new portfolio.

  1. 9 asset classes: Stocks, Mutual Funds, ULIPs, Fixed Income, Property, Loans, Other Assets, and Other borrowings (NPS, F&O, Gold Bond and Cash will be coming in the next phase)

  2. A complete picture of money made on investments, including realized gain, unrealized gain, capital gain, and income from dividend and interest.

  3. Multiple ways to add stocks:

    1. Manual Entry: You can add multiple buy/sell entries in a single transaction (along with details regarding charges, broker, and SIP). You can also add your broker once, and all charges will be automatically calculated going forward. (This includes all kinds of charges such as exchange charges, GST, SEBI charges, stamp duty etc.)

    2. Excel Utility: You can add buy/sell entries with our Excel upload feature. In this version, you will not need the BSE/NSE/ISIN code to make an entry, which is the scenario in the existing version. You can add a buy/sell entry using the common stock name, similar to how you search for a stock on Moneycontrol.com, and then make an entry.

    3. PDF upload: Upload contract notes received from your broker (This is a beta feature)

  4. Separate dashboard for Stocks (All asset classes now have their very own customized dashboards)

    1. Once you have added a stock to your portfolio, your historic and future bonus/split and dividend transactions are automatically taken care of. This is applicable even when you make multiple buy/sell edit entries, for any historic date/s. The system will always adjust the right quantity, price, gain, and tax.

    2. There is no longer any restriction in the way you can add transactions to your portfolio.

    3. You can always do a quick check on taxes applicable as of today, before you decide to sell. This is optimized for new tax guidelines and any bonus/split received during the holding period.

    4. With “My News”, you can track news pertaining to your stocks, and you can also track analyst and broker recommendations on your stocks with “My Recommendations”. All previous and upcoming corporate actions (including Results, Board meeting, etc.) can be tracked with the “Corporate Action” tab. Auto alerts on your stocks (i.e. moving average alerts, block deal alerts etc.) can be tracked from the alert centre. Currently, Custom Alerts are available with the existing mail alert feature, but this will be integrated into the dashboard in an upcoming release.

    5. Users can also track their already-sold investments and their annualized returns.

    6. In addition, you can visualize your portfolio performance in graphical form for each individual stock, and at the asset class level as well.

  5. For mutual funds and other asset classes, enhanced features such as realized gain, tax calculation, dividend, and other income adjustment, as well as annualized returns, are also available. In addition, the mutual fund dashboard has certain new features:

    1. Now you can manage STP and SWP transactions, along with SIP transactions.

    2. Your dividends received in mutual funds are processed automatically (either reinvested, or added to cash).

    3. You can also select your view and group investments basis Type, AMC, MF rank, Gaining, Losing, Sector wise, By Size, etc. within the dashboard itself.

    4. If you manage your mutual fund portfolio using Moneycontrol.com, you can check your true holding in stocks based on your mutual fund holding. The Consolidated holding report also provides a view of total holding. In particular, stocks based on direct purchase and indirect investment through mutual funds can be seen.

    5. You will also get a reminder upfront for upcoming SIP, STP, and SWP transactions.

  6. For ULIPs, you can schedule your premiums to get reminders. Premiums are auto adjusted on the scheduled date, while you can also add additional values like sum assured for ULIPs.

  7. For Fixed Income, we have matched real world calculations for each fixed income product (i.e. bank products give interest at the end of a quarter. For PPF, if you add the amount before the 5th of a month, then you get interest for that month, and NOT otherwise.)

    1. You can also manage events like: change in interest rates in the middle of the duration, incremental deposit (to manage flexible RD, PPF) and premature withdrawal with penal charges.

  8. For Loan products, now you can delay your first EMI (To match the education loan product offered in the market).  You can also change interest rates (Which is common for loan products in India) and do top-up loans.

  9. The Watchlist now offers live feed with auto refresh rates of 30 seconds. You can also track futures and options of a particular stock along with the underlying stock, all on a single screen. Live feeds are available for commodity and currency watch list as well.

  10. In the report section:

    1. You can now find capital gain tax for stocks, Equity MF, Debt MF and Bullion. Debt MF and Bullion tax calculations give you optimized value based on indexation benefits. In addition, you can now check quarterly taxes as well, if you manage your investments as business income.

    2. You can check individual stocks, mutual fund wise profit/loss and segregated with long term realized, long term unrealized, short term realized, short term unrealized, dividend income and charges.

    3. You can track all dividend income, by time period or by stock.

    4. You can compare performances of individual stocks and Mutual Funds with Performance reports.

    5. You can check current and historic holding, using the holding report.

  11. All features are also available on mobile and tablet browsers.
