Actor Lakshmi Manchu recently hit back at a journalist during the promotions of her upcoming film Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy. The exchange took place after she was repeatedly questioned about her clothing choices at the age of 47 and as a mother of a young daughter.
Lakshmi, visibly upset, responded, “Would you ask a man the same question? How dare you! How dare you ask me that question? Would you ever say, ‘Mahesh Babu, you are 50 now, why are you going shirtless?’ If not, then why ask a woman this? As a journalist, you need to be more responsible.”
On Gender Bias in the Industry
The actor also touched upon the challenges women face in the film industry. Without naming names, she revealed, “I know a superstar’s wife who is still in the industry. After her divorce, even the roles she was once offered were taken away because people thought her ex-husband might object. She is waiting to do good work.”
Lakshmi further added, “A man’s life doesn’t change because of marriage or divorce. However, women are burdened with responsibilities, and we must assert our own independence.
