Actor Akshay Kumar has long been an admirer of the legendary comic actor and filmmaker Charlie Chaplin.
During the trailer launch of his upcoming comedy Housefull 5 on Tuesday, Akshay once again expressed his deep appreciation for Chaplin, revealing that he carries a photograph of the icon in his wallet.
He also disclosed that he keeps a picture of the legendary actor in his wallet.
When asked about the film’s role in reviving slapstick comedy, Akshay reflected on the challenges of the genre. He said, "If I would not be mistaken, then slapstick comedy yeh koi asaan comedy nahi hai (it's not easy comedy). Nana sahab, Riteish, Abhishek ne itna saare comedy kiye hai (have done so much comedy). They can vouch for it. They are part of a comedy franchise, but let me tell you, slapstick comedy is very difficult. And this comedy that we have done is a slapstick comedy mixed with action comedy. It is physical comedy. I'm a huge fan of Charlie Chaplin."
Akshay then asked if they wanted to see the photo of Charlie Chaplin he keeps in his wallet, much to the delight of the media in attendance. When they enthusiastically concurred, he produced the treasured photo and gave them a peek at the source of his passion for the art.
Charlie Chaplin’s career spanned over six decades, during which he became one of the most influential figures in cinema history.
Renowned for his work in the silent film era, Chaplin’s most famous creation, the “Little Tramp,” has become a timeless symbol of comedy and humanity. Beyond acting, he was also a trailblazer as a director and writer, shaping the art of filmmaking for generations.
Chaplin's contributions were acknowledged all over the world, and his 12-minute standing ovation at the 1972 Academy Awards stands as one of his most memorable moments and evidence of the work's lasting influence.
With an ensemble cast that includes Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johnny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma, Akshay Kumar is getting ready for the release of Housefull 5.
Supported by producer Sajid Nadiadwala and helmed by Tarun Mansukhani, the film is scheduled for release on June 6.
Akshay's tribute to Charlie Chaplin emphasises the enduring appeal of vintage comedy as well as the physicality and talent needed to become proficient in slapstick, an art form that Housefull 5 seeks to honour with a contemporary spin.
