Who is Elyanna? The music sensation who became a rage in India after Coldplay’s Mumbai concert

Elyanna, born Elian Margieh in Nazareth, has captivated the global music scene with her unique artistry.

Elyanna, a 22-year-old Palestinian-Chilean singer, has taken India by storm following her spellbinding performance at Coldplay’s recent Mumbai concert. Her Arabic renditions of We Pray, Deewani Mastani, and Kaho Na Kaho left audiences in awe, earning her immense praise for her ability to seamlessly blend Arabic, Latin and pop music styles.

Elyanna, born Elian Margieh in Nazareth, has captivated the global music scene with her unique artistry. Her rich family heritage in the arts—her mother and grandfather being published poets—laid the foundation for her musical journey. Inspired by legends like Etta James and Amy Winehouse, Elyanna began singing at just seven years old. Her talent was first discovered by her brother Feras, who encouraged her to pursue her passion.

Her family relocated to California, where Elyanna’s career took off. Initially gaining attention by posting covers on Instagram, she was discovered by Grammy-winning producer Nasri Atweh and eventually signed with Universal Arabic Music, led by Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, who also manages The Weeknd.

In 2023, Elyanna made history as the first artist to perform an entire set in Arabic at Coachella, a milestone that underscored her commitment to representing her culture on the global stage. "It’s a big responsibility. I’m representing my culture, but I’m really working very hard," she shared with ABC News.

Her ability to blend traditional Arabic music with modern pop and Latin beats has made her a standout performer. This talent was further highlighted during her collaboration with Coldplay, both at their Glastonbury performance in 2024, the Abu DHabi concert and the recent Mumbai concert.

In April 2024, Elyanna released her debut album Woledto (Arabic for "I am born"), following two successful EPs. The album is a deeply personal project that merges her Palestinian and Chilean roots, sampling everything from traditional sounds to a recording of her grandfather.
