When Virat Kohli used to visit Anushka Sharma and children in the street went crazy

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, while promoting his upcoming film The Bengal Files, recently looked back at a charming memory from the time Anushka Sharma was his neighbour.

Speaking on The Raunac Podcast, he recalled how the buzz around Virat Kohli visiting her during their dating years created quite a scene in their locality.

Agnihotri was asked about his opinion of Virat Kohli and did not hold back in his praise. “As a cricketer, he is great. He is amazing, what style he has,” he said.

Although he admitted never having met Virat personally, one memory stands out. “Anushka Sharma was my neighbour back then. We lived in the same society, we moved out and they have too… but her father is still a great friend of mine, and so is her dog. When they weren't married, Virat would often come to her house to meet her. Children in our street used to go crazy. They would run behind his car in excitement. That is the only memory I have of him. I have never met him personally. Also, I am not too much into cricket, I never find time between my work. I have been busy.”

Virat and Anushka’s love story began in 2013 when they first crossed paths on the sets of a television commercial.

Their chemistry, both on and off screen, quickly fuelled rumours. Over the years, they became pillars of support for one another — Anushka standing firm through Virat’s cricketing highs and lows, while he often credited her with bringing calm and balance to his life.

In December 2017, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate wedding in Tuscany, Italy. The dreamy ceremony dominated headlines and remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated weddings. Their family grew with the arrival of daughter Vamika in 2021 and son Akaay in 2024.

Despite their immense fame, the pair have taken a firm stand on privacy, repeatedly urging media and paparazzi not to photograph their children.

What began with children running behind Virat’s car has now blossomed into one of India’s most admired partnerships. Today, Virat and Anushka are more than just icons in cricket and cinema — they are admired as a power couple who balance love, fame, and family with grace.
