Veteran actor Vinod Khanna, known for his charming screen presence and commanding performances, once made headlines with his unabashed candor about his personal life. In an old interview, the actor opened up about his views on relationships, his attraction to women, and how society tends to judge public figures.
Vinod Khanna, who took a surprising five-year break from the peak of his Bollywood career, was deeply influenced by the spiritual teachings of Osho Rajneesh during this time. He moved to Osho’s Pune commune and embraced a life of spiritual exploration, away from the glamour of the film industry. This phase, according to Khanna, was about self-discovery and redefining his perspective on life.
âWell, I was a bachelor, and I am no saint as far as women are concerned. I need s*x as much as anybody else does. Without women, we wonât be here, without s*x, we wonât be here, so why should anybody object to my being with women.â -Vinod Khanna byu/ACTRESSESKAKURSI inBollyBlindsNGossip
In a rare and honest moment during one of his past interviews, he addressed his past relationships and his need for intimacy. Holding a cigarette in hand, he said bluntly, “Well, I was a bachelor, and I am no saint as far as women are concerned. I need sex as much as anybody else does.”
He went on to make a broader point about societal hypocrisy: “Without women, we won’t be here, without sex we won’t be here, so why should anybody object to my being with women?”
These remarks reflected his straightforward nature—never one to sugarcoat things or put up a morally polished front for the media. Khanna believed in embracing his truths rather than hiding them behind a screen of idealism.
His son, actor Akshaye Khanna, once spoke about his father’s choice to leave the film industry at a crucial time. Recalling it in 2020, Akshaye said, “As a five-year-old, it was impossible to understand it. Osho had nothing to do with my thoughts about why my dad wasn’t there. That came much later… Something must have moved him so deeply inside, that he felt that kind of decision was worth it for him.”
Vinod Khanna’s life journey was anything but conventional. From superstardom to spiritual seclusion and back to cinema, his boldness—in life and in words—always set him apart.
He was married twice: first to Geetanjali, with whom he had sons Rahul and Akshaye, and later to Kavita, with whom he had two more children, Sakshi and Shraddha.
