Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit is one of the prominent actresses in the Hindi cinema industry. She ruled Bollywood during the 90s with her strong performance and stunning dance moves that earned her the title ‘Dhak Dhak' girl.
However, the actress was once fired from a film after she refused to do a bold scene with veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan.
In a throwback interview with Radio Nasha, filmmaker Tinnu Anand recalled some behind-the-scenes of the 1989 film, Shanakht. He revealed that he had already recited the whole sequence to Madhuri, and she agreed at the moment but refused to the scene later.
Tinnu shared, “I had narrated the entire sequence to Madhuri and I told her that you have to remove your blouse and for the first time, we should see you in your bra. And I am not going to hide anything behind a haystack or anything.”
The filmmaker added, “Because you are offering yourself to help a man who is trying to help you. So, it is a very important situation and I want to shoot it on the first day. She said okay.”
On the day of shooting the bold scene, Madhuri felt uncomfortable and didn't get out of the dressing room for 45 minutes. The actress later refused to do the scene, which left his frustrated.
Tinnu Anand suggested in the interview that what bothered him was that she could have refused to sign the film in the beginning, but she agreed.
He recalled going into the dressing room and asking her what happened, to which Madhuri responded, “Tinnu, I don’t want to do this particular scene.” He added, “I said, ‘I’m sorry, you have to do this scene.’ She said, ‘No, I don’t want to.’ I said, ‘Okay, pack up, say good bye to the film. I’ll cancel my shoot.'"
Amitabh Bachchan tried to resolve Tinnu Anand and Madhuri Dixit’s differences
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan heard the buzz about the issue and intervened to calm down the situation. However, filmmaker Tinnu Anand had already started searching for her replacement.
Tinnu Anand recalled Amitabh Bachchan saying, “He said, ‘Let it be, why are you arguing with her? If she has an objection…’ I said, ‘If she had to object, she should have done it earlier, before signing the film.”
Madhuri’s secretary later assured Tinnu that she would do the scene. However, the film was eventually shelved due to issues with the producer. Additionally, Madhuri and Tinnu never collaborated on any film after that.
