Mohanlal, revered as a near-divine figure in the Malayalam film world and fondly called "Laal Ettan," enjoys an immense and loyal fan following. Yet, few are aware of the unwavering support he receives from his wife, Suchitra, who stands as his true pillar of strength.
Mohanlal's impeccable acting abilities inspired Suchitra's admiration. For those who don't know, Suchitra is the daughter of well-known Tamil producer and actor K. Balaji, who is a major player in the motion picture business.
Even after getting a lot of marriage proposals, Suchitra had her sights set on Mohanlal. She told her mother how she felt and advised her father to talk to the renowned actress Sukumari, who later assisted in bringing Suchitra and Mohanlal together.
Love blossomed after they met. Suchitra pursued him enthusiastically, sending anonymous letters, flowers, and cards, much like a loyal fangirl. These gestures only served to heighten the romance of their early relationship by concealing her identity.
Suchitra told a charming story about the code name she had for Mohanlal, which she doesn't think he ever found out, in an interview with Rekha Menon.
She recalled how she had fallen in love with Mohanlal at a wedding in Thiruvananthapuram because of his attractive appearance in a maroon shirt and his endearing demeanour. She had given him the nickname "SKP," which stands for Sundara Kuttappan and means "charming man."
“When I saw him in the first movie Manjil Virinja Pookkal, I hated him. I used to hate him whenever he featured the role of a villain. But I knew that I disliked him because he was so perfect in his job. After watching 'Ente Mammattikuttiyammakku', I started to like him. Slowly, I fell in love with him and we got married. Today, he is my favourite actor.”
When Mohanlal became one of India's most renowned actors, the couple got married on April 28, 1988. He often cites Suchitra as a source of strength and a key factor in his extraordinary success. Vismaya, their daughter, and Pranav Mohanlal, an actor, are their two children together.
Whether it's comedy, romance, or high-octane action, Mohanlal has mastered every genre with ease. At the young age of 18, he made his acting debut in the 1978 movie Thiranottam. But because the movie was delayed, he made his official on-screen debut as an antagonist in Manjil Virinja Pookkal.
With more than 400 films to his name, Mohanlal is a cinematic powerhouse in his own right who has revolutionised Indian cinema. He has won five National Awards and has demonstrated his remarkable versatility in a number of films, including Iruvar, Kireedam, Vanaprastham, Thazhvaram, Devasuram, Pulimurugan, Drishyam, Oppam, Lucifer, and L2: Empuraan.

Mohanlal's appeal goes beyond his work; he is still regarded as Mollywood's archetypal romantic hero, enthralling viewers and retaining a loyal female fan base decades later. However, did you know that Suchitra, his wife, used to be one of his greatest admirers? She actually had a secret crush on him before they were married, and she even gave the actor a code name.
Interestingly, Mohanlal began his career playing villainous roles. At first, Suchitra admitted to harbouring negative feelings towards him because of those characters.
