Episode 13 of Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines offered fans a rare dose of laughter amidst the show’s emotional turmoil—and now, there’s a delightful twist. That fan-favourite comedy scene featuring Kim Seon Ho and Park Hae Joon? It turns out the moment wasn’t even in the script.
In the scene, Kim Seon Ho’s character Park Chung Seob finds himself awkwardly trying to impress his girlfriend Yang Geum Myeong’s stern father, played by Park Hae Joon. The atmosphere begins stiff and tense, only to spiral hilariously as Chung Seob—completely drunk—tries to win over Gwan Sik with charm, clumsiness, and a nervous heart-on-his-sleeve performance.
Now here’s the kicker: that entire sequence was completely improvised by Kim Seon Ho.
In a newly released behind-the-scenes commentary, director Kim Won Suk praised the actor’s spontaneous creativity. “All of it was his idea. His acting is so detailed.” IU, who plays Geum Myeong, added with a laugh, “His slapstick comedy was brilliant. It’s not in the script, right?”

One particular unscripted moment that had fans cracking up? Kim Seon Ho slipping into his regular voice mid-sentence made the scene even funnier. According to the director, that wasn’t planned either—it was pure instinct.
Since airing, the scene has gone viral across social media, with viewers sharing clips and fan edits.
