The trailer release for the eagerly awaited movie Kannappa has been delayed out of respect for the tragic Air India plane crash that happened close to Ahmedabad.
The event, which was originally planned for June 13 in Indore, has now been delayed by a day.
Akshay Kumar and Vishnu Manchu took a united stand to cancel the promotional event, acknowledging the national sentiment and the gravity of the tragedy.
The team released a statement and said that the trailer release has also been deferred by a day as a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families.
“Akshay Kumar and Vishnu Manchu have taken a collective decision to cancel the Kannappa trailer launch event that was scheduled to be held in Indore. The move comes in the wake of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which has left the entire country in shock. As a mark of respect for the lives lost, the team has also chosen to defer the trailer release by a day. The focus remains on standing in solidarity with the grieving families during this difficult time,” read the statement.
Stars Akshay Kumar, Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas, and Mohanlal are all playing important parts in the upcoming mythological epic Kannappa.
The grand trailer launch event in Indore was being planned as a significant promotional event, and everyone was expected to attend. However, the team decided to delay the event and the trailer release because the nation is still processing the extent of the loss.
242 passengers and crew members were on board an Air India-operated Boeing Dreamliner headed for London when it crashed. At 1:39 PM, the plane took off from runway 23 in Ahmedabad, but it tragically crashed five minutes after takeoff.
The crash, which took place in the Meghani Nagar area, was one of the worst air disasters the nation has seen in almost thirty years, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Heart-wrenching visuals shared on social media captured massive plumes of smoke rising from the crash site, as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on X, saying, "The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected."
