Vikrant Massey to join Lakshya in Karan Johar's Dostana 2: Report

Karan Johar's Dostana 2 has been in the headlines last year after alleged fall out with Kartik Aaryan who was initially cast in the much-anticipated sequel. As per latest reports, another actor has stepped in to replace Kartik.

According to Bollywood Hungama, Vikrant Massey is reportedly set to star in Dostana 2 alongside Lakshya. A source cited by the publication revealed, “Karan Johar is revamping the Dostana franchise by signing two amazing actors - Vikrant Massey and Lakshya. It’s an outright hilarious script, and the makers are all set to begin filming late next year.”

The report also stated that Dostana 2 will be an OTT release set to stream on Netflix instead of a big theatrical release. The rom-com will be directed by Shauna Gautam, known for Nadaniyaan.

A source described the project as a complete popcorn entertainer, noting that Karan Johar has strong confidence in Shauna’s talent to seamlessly blend humour and emotion in a contemporary and relatable manner.

However, the makers have not confirmed the development. They are yet to make any official announcement.  As per reports, one of the younger newbie actresses are expected to join the cast as well.

The highly anticipated film Dostana 2 was abruptly shelved in 2021 due to creative differences between Kartik Aaryan and Dharma Productions. Kartik, who was originally cast alongside Janhvi Kapoor, eventually exited the project, leading to widespread speculation and media attention. Dharma Productions later confirmed the development in an official statement, announcing that the film would be recast.

In 2024, Kartik finally addressed the situation publicly, shedding light on why the project was called off. Despite the shake-up, Lakshya remains attached to the film and is still set to play a lead role, maintaining some continuity from the original plan.

Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar, who experienced a well-publicized fallout in 2021 over creative differences on Dostana 2, have now mended their relationship. The two have moved past the disagreement and are currently working together on new ventures, including an upcoming film titled Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri and Nagzilla scheduled for release in 2026.
