Vicky Kaushal's film Chhaava has been declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at a public event. He shared that the film should be watched to understand the story of the Maratha ruler and his legacy. In a post on his official social media account, Yadav also mentioned that the film's release is on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, and the movie is based on his son, Sambhaji Maharaj.
The movie has also received praise from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He commended Chhaava for its accurate portrayal of history and shared that he has heard from many people that the film does not distort historical facts. Although Fadnavis has not yet seen the film, he expressed his happiness about the film being made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He added that his government will work towards promoting the movie and making it accessible to as many people as possible.
Earlier, the Mumbai Dabbawala Association had also requested Fadnavis to make the film tax-free in Maharashtra. Subhash Talekar, the president of the association, explained that their ancestors fought alongside Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in battle, making both Chhatrapati Shivaji and Chhatrapati Sambhaji revered figures for them.
Chhaava is a period drama directed by Laxman Utekar, which tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the eldest son of the Maratha empire's founder. Vicky Kaushal plays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj, while Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife, Yesubai Bhonsale. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in important roles.
The film has been a success at the box office, earning over Rs 150 crore within its first week of release.
