Chhaava has been receiving widespread acclaim, and now Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also lauded the film for its faithful representation of history. He highlighted that the movie stays true to historical events without altering any facts, praising it for its authenticity.
Fadnavis expressed his happiness at the film’s portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s life, a subject close to the hearts of many. He noted that he has heard from the public that Chhaava effectively captures the essence of the Maratha ruler’s legacy, earning positive feedback from viewers.
The movie has been receiving widespread acclaim from both fans and celebrities, with its box office numbers soaring. Following its success, several organisations have urged the Maharashtra CM to grant the film a tax-free status. Notably, the Mumbai Dabbawala Association and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have written to Fadnavis, requesting this exemption.
The call for a tax-free status has gained momentum as the public continues to show strong support for the film. Fadnavis, acknowledging the growing buzz, expressed his appreciation for Chhaava, sharing that he had received positive feedback from the public, though he has not yet watched the film himself.
"I am happy that a very good movie has been made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. While I have yet to watch it, I have heard from people that this film has been made without distorting history," he said.
Both FWICE and the Mumbai Dabbawala Association have stressed that Chhaava should be viewed by everyone across the nation to learn about the Maratha rulers. FWICE’s statement further reinforced this sentiment, urging that the film’s message should be shared nationwide, adding, “We strongly believe that the movie should reach people not only in Maharashtra but across the nation.”
In support of the film, Subhash Talekar, president of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association, shared his community's connection to the Maratha legacy: “Our ancestors were warriors in the army of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and fought alongside him on the battlefield. For us, both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj are revered figures.”
Chhaava has now amassed a total box office collection of Rs 165 crore. With increasing backing from both the public and the industry, the film’s continued success seems highly likely, and the ongoing debate about granting it tax-free status remains a prominent subject of discussion.
