Veteran Kannada actor Bank Janardhan passes away at 77

Bank Janardhan, a veteran Kannada cinema and television actor, died late Friday night at a private hospital in Bangalore. He was 77.

According to reports, the actor had been suffering from age-related health issues for quite some time. His condition worsened, prompting his family to admit him to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru, where he passed away.

Bank Janardhan, born in Bengaluru in 1948, was a household name in the Kannada cinema industry, known for his powerful supporting roles and impeccable comic timing.

Over his successful career, he appeared in over 500 films. He was well recognised for playing fatherly and funny characters that struck a profound chord with the audience.

He suffered a heart attack on September 26, 2023, but later recovered with medical treatment and was back to work.

However, his health deteriorated as he grew older. Despite his departure from active cinema roles after 1991, Janardhan remains an iconic character in Sandalwood (the Kannada film industry) and is still remembered for his contributions.

Bank Janardhan appeared in numerous famous films, including Shh (directed by Upendra), Tarle Nan Maga, Belliappa Bangarappa, Jee Boomba, Ganesh Subramanya, and Kaurava, among others. His performances frequently added a certain warmth and humor to the film.

Janardhan left an indelible impression on television in addition to the silver screen. He appeared in several Kannada television series, including Papa Pandu, Jokali, Robo Family, and Mangalya.

As word spread of his death, fans, colleagues, and Kannada cinema fraternity members began to pay respect. Many remembered his remarkable performances and the lasting impact he had on Kannada cinema and television. The influence of Bank Janardhan on the entertainment industry will be acknowledged for many years to come.
