Veteran actor and producer Dheeraj Kumar, a respected figure in Indian cinema and television, has been admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

On Monday, July 14, the 79-year-old was admitted to the hospital due to severe respiratory problems. He has been diagnosed with acute pneumonia and is presently receiving ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

His family has released an official statement stating that the medical staff is closely monitoring his condition and providing round-the-clock care. The situation is still grave, even though doctors are optimistic that he will recover.

"The family requests prayers for his speedy recovery and urges everyone to respect their privacy during this difficult time," they said in an official statement to the media. The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they’ve received from fans and well-wishers across the country.

Dheeraj Kumar’s hospitalisation comes just days after he made a rare public appearance at the inauguration of the ISKCON temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

At the spiritually significant event, he was seen in high spirits and deeply engaged with the proceedings.

Speaking to the media, he had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his commitment to promoting Sanatan Dharma. "I came here with a sense of humility. While they called me the VVIP, I believe the true VVIP is God," Kumar had said, reflecting his enduring humility and spiritual outlook.

Over the course of his nearly 60-year career, Dheeraj Kumar has left an enduring impression on Indian entertainment. Beginning in 1965, he became well-known for his parts in films like Swami, Heera Panna, and Raaton Ka Raja. He further solidified his versatility as an actor by appearing in 21 Punjabi films between 1970 and 1984.
