Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela, has strongly reacted to accusations made by Diet Sabya, a well-known Instagram fashion critique page.
A video that purportedly showed Rautela posing for pictures on a staircase during the Cannes Film Festival, allegedly upsetting other people, went viral, sparking the controversy. The actor has vehemently refuted the allegation, claiming that her team obtained all necessary permits for the filming.
Taking to Instagram, the 31-year-old issued a detailed statement in which she not only clarified her stance but also criticised Diet Sabya for what she termed as targeted slander. She referred to herself as a proud outsider in the industry and charged that the anonymous fashion page was spreading lies to get attention and interaction.
"To my global fans & supporters the Cannes Festival community, and champions of truth, I rise with unyielding strength against the cowardly lies of Diet Sabya, a faceless page that dares to falsely claim I blocked a staircase…” she wrote. Rautela emphasised that her photo shoot was carried out in complete accordance with the festival's rules, noting that the staircase in question was a popular location for photos.
She didn’t hold back in her criticism of Diet Sabya, writing, "Diet Sabya, a cheap imitation of Diet Prada, lacks even an ounce of originality, thriving only on venomous attacks against hardworking outsiders who dare to shine..."
The actor urged her followers to block and report the page, calling it "an irrelevant entity" spreading "envious slander." She concluded her statement with defiance and pride, asserting, “No one not Diet Sabya, nor their petty lies can dim the light of Urvashi Rautela…”
In another post she wrote, "So apparently I’m “trying to be Aishwarya Rai with 0 charisma"? Darling… Aishwarya is iconic. But I’m not here to be anyone’s duplicate. I’m the blueprint. Cannes didn’t invite me to blend in- I came to stand out. If my look, my style, or my confidence makes you uncomfortable… maybe take a deep breath (or two). I’m not everyone’s cup of tea – I’m more like champagne with fireworks. And charisma? Sweetheart, if you could measure it, I’d break the scale."
“To all the keyboard critics – keep talking. To all the queens owning their space – keep slaying. To myself – keep shining, because no one does it like you." She added.
The Daaku Maharaj actor captioned the post as. "#TooMuchCharismaToHandle #UrvashiRautela #CannesWithConfidence #NotYourCopyPaste #QueenEnergy #Cannes2025." She also shared screenshots of the articles. She has turned off comments on the post.
In recent years, Urvashi has established herself as a regular on the Cannes red carpet thanks to her dramatic ensembles and partnerships with international fashion designers. But the incident has once again raised concerns about the growing influence of fashion watchdog pages and the scrutiny Indian celebrities face on global stages.
Urvashi remains steadfast in her determination to continue confidently and resolutely representing India on international stages in spite of the online uproar.
