Following the submission of a chargesheet by the Kerala Police that ruled out any significant evidence against the actor, Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan was exonerated of assault charges brought by his former public relations manager, Vipin Kumar.
The dispute started in May 2025 when Vipin Kumar complained that Mukundan had physically and verbally abused him during a meeting at the actor's home in Kochi.
Vipin claims that the actor punched and threatened him over professional disputes, such as Mukundan's annoyance with Kumar's promotion of actor Tovino Thomas' movie Narivetta.
A thorough police investigation was initiated after a formal complaint was filed against Mukundan under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
OnManorama recently reported that the police determined that the altercation was not a violent assault but rather a minor scuffle.
According to the chargesheet, there was no concrete proof of assault. Vipin's account of what happened was not supported by CCTV footage taken at the scene. There was no sign of serious injury or violent intent, despite reports that Vipin had minor injuries and that his spectacles were broken.
Despite being acknowledged, the physical encounter was judged to be too minor to be considered an offence under the law as it stands today. For his part, Unni Mukundan had previously refuted the accusations in a counter-complaint. He vehemently denied any physical assault but acknowledged a verbal altercation.
The actor has previously been involved in legal issues. A woman accused Mukundan of sexual harassment in 2018 after he allegedly mistreated her during a meeting at his home in Edappally. Mukundan refuted the accusations, claiming they were false and motivated by financial gain. Following a settlement between the parties, the Kerala High Court closed that case in 2023.

On the work front, Unni Mukundan remains well-known in Malayalam cinema despite the legal troubles. His roles in Malayalam films helped him gain popularity after he made his debut in the 2011 Tamil film Seedan.
He received more praise for his most recent blockbuster, Marco (2024). He is currently filming for his next project, Mindiyum Paranjum, and was last seen in Get-Set Baby. The actor seems to be advancing both personally and professionally now that the legal case is over.
